Campuses

Campus projects ranging from small documentation tasks to major reconfiguration of a large stadium form one of the key practice areas for our firm. We have worked with the University of California, Berkeley in projects including the renovation of the Memorial Stadium, repairs to the Faculty Club and the Anna Head School, and the transition of the Old Power House into a performance space for the  School of Music (as a consultant on the team led by Mark Cavagnero Architects). UC Berkeley selected our firm to prepare historic structure reports for five of its most historically significant properties: the Hearst Greek Theatre, California Hall, the Faculty Club, Durant Hall, and the Anna Head School.

We have also prepared a Historic American Building Survey report for Keyser Hall, a building on the Tamalpais High School which was to be demolished. The school district commissioned the HABS documentation to retain a record of the building as part of environmental compliance in approving demolition of the deteriorated structure.

Frederic Knapp co-presented with UC Berkeley Associate Vice Chancellor Emily Marthinsen an overview of campus historical issues at the annual convention of the Society of College and University Planners in 2005 and at a regional SCUP conference on Mid-20th Century buildings in 2007.
